Hopefully my flight isn't cancelled due to this little natural phenomenon:
Flights to and from Alaska have been cancelled due to the ash from Mt. Redoubt which has been almost continually erupting for the past week. Luckily the plume hasn't covered Anchorage, but the ash is really bad for airplane engines. Oh well, so it goes. The top two pictures are lightning in the ash plume. The ash is full of ionized particles which cause lightning. (photos, adn.com)

The whole sky looks like it's foggy, but it's just ash-fall*
